UK SOUTH HOCKEY LEAGUE 2016/17 ADMIN INSTRUCTION

A.        England Hockey Rules

1.         General. The UK South Inter Unit Hockey League will take place between Sep 16 and Mar 17. One fixture will take place per month, to be played at the Army Hockey Centre in Aldershot, GU11 2LQ. Fixture dates are as follows:

21 Sep 16
19 Oct 16
23 Nov 16
18 Jan 17
 15 Feb 17
 15 Mar 17

2.         League Format. Dependent on the number of teams entering fixtures will either be played in a round robin format, with all teams playing each other, or teams will be divided into two pools and play every other team in their pool. Where the number of teams in each pool is not even a points adjustment will be made so that the total number of points available is equal.

3.  Army Cup.  Overall points at the end of the fixture will be submitted to the AHA and will decide qualification for the Army Hockey Cup. Unless under exceptional circumstances, the top two Minor and top two Major units from each regional hockey league will gain entry.  Army Cup quarter finals will take place in Aldershot on 19 Apr 17 and semi finals on 26 Apr 17.  The major and minor unit finals will be played during the Inter-Corps Outdoor competition in May 17.

4.         Entries. Team Captains are to submit their registration to the undersigned using Annex A to this instruction.  The cut-off date for entry into the first fixture is 19 Sep 16. Units unable to field a team for the first fixture may enter subsequent fixtures.

5.         Costing. Each unit is to pay a sum of £50 to the AHA to affiliate their team.  This will also pay for entry into the Army Cup if successful. Cheques are to be made out to “Central Bank ASCB” and sent to G23, Mackenzie Building, Fox Lines, Queens Avenue, ALDERSHOT, GU11 2LB.

6.         Medical.  All team members are to be medically fit to take part in sport; Team Captains are responsible for ensuring the medical fitness of their players. Team Captains are also to ensure players names have been published on unit Part 1 Orders for each fixture so that they are classed as on duty. All personnel are advised to wear suitable protective equipment such as shin pads and mouth guards. Team captains MUST provide a suitable first aid kit for their team. Minor injuries are to be dealt with pitch side, major injuries will be transported to the Aldershot Garrison Medical Centre (contact number 01252 335000). Emergencies should go straight to Frimley Park Accident and Emergency (01276 604604). Where any doubt exists as to whether a serious injury has been sustained, the Team Captain or League Secretary is to call an ambulance using the 999 emergency number.

7.         Risk Assessments. A general Risk Assessment for the UK South hockey league has been carried out by the League Secretary as per direction from the AHA. A copy is available on request should Team Captains wish to create their own.

8.         Game duration. Games will be 20 minutes long, with no half time break (this may be reduced to 15 minutes if numerous teams enter). Both pitch 1 and 2 will be in use in order to maximise the number of games which can be played.  Team captains are to arrive at the Army Hockey Ground by 0900 hrs for an admin brief prior to each fixture and are asked to ensure their teams are ready for first PB at 0930 hrs.

9.         Scoring. Throughout the league the scoring system used will award three points for a win, two for a draw and one for a loss.

10.       Rules. The England Hockey Rules of the Outdoor

11.       Feeding. Teams are responsible for their own feeding throughout the day.  Aspire have been requested to provide a mobile catering wagon for each fixture; purchases from this facility are at individual cost.

12.       Accommodation. Transit accommodation may be available within the Garrison if booked with sufficient notice. Teams are advised to contact the Central Booking Service on 01252 354305.  The Pavilion will be available for teams to get showered and changed in and as a location to store kit and equipment throughout the day, although kit security remains a personal matter.

13.       Umpires.  The AHA Admin Officer is requested to assist with the provision of qualified umpires, however, all Team Captains are requested to make known and available any qualified personnel within their units.  Fixtures such as these cannot proceed without appropriately qualified officials, so it is vital that Team Captains support the League Secretary in this matter.

14.       Team composition.  Both Major and Minor unit teams can be a gender mix or a complete male or female team, anyone attached to that particular unit can represent the unit when playing hockey.  Both Regular and reservists are eligible to play.

15.  Trophies.  Major and Minor unit league winners from last season are requested to return their trophies to the League Secretary by the end of September 2016 in order that they can be cleaned/repaired and prepared for the subsequent winners.

16.       Summary. There will be six fixtures in the 2016/17 UK South Hockey League.  This League is a great opportunity to encourage and foster the development of grass-roots hockey.  It also acts as a vehicle for Corps Secretaries to spot talented personnel for the future.  With support from unit hockey officers, Commanding Officers, officials and players, this League will continue to thrive.
