ARMY HOCKEY ASSOCIATION MAIN EVENTS

ARMY RESERVES FORCES MIXED INTER CORPS HOCKEY TOURNAMENT, OUTDOOR 21 OCTOBER 2017, INDOOR 22 OCTOBER 2017 - ALDERSHOT

  1. General.  The first Reserves Forces Mixed Inter Corps Outdoor Hockey Tournament will take place at the Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre (AGSC) on 21 May 2017. The tournament is a single day event aimed at maximum participation at all levels

  2. Entrants. Teams or individuals are requested to confirm their commitment to the tournament by filling out      Annex D on receipt of this letter and returning it no later than 01 May 17. The Reserves Forces Secretary’s (RFS) details are at the top of this letter.

  3. Format.  The format for the tournament will be confirmed in a later notice, but an outline is as follows:

    a)  Location. The tournament will take place at Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre, Rawlinson Road, Aldershot GU11 2LQ.

    b)  Pools. Teams will be drawn against each other once teams have confirmed. The length of pool matches will be determined once teams are confirmed.

    c)  Timings. Player will be expected to be available for matches throughout the tournament, which will commence at 1000 hrs and conclude at 1800 hrs on Sun 09 Oct. Timings remain subject to change on the day.

  4. Equipment.  Units are requested to apply for funding in accordance with JSP 660 wherever possible. The RFS will have the use of a goalie keeper kit, some outdoor sticks and outdoor balls, but numbers will be limited. Units are required to complete the necessary section of  Annex D should they need to borrow equipment. Protective equipment (shin pads and gum shields) are to be provided by the player and are mandatory. It is the player’s responsibility to ensure that they have the correct protective equipment.

  5. Duty Status.  In accordance with AGAI Vol 1 CH 5 para 5.050, units are required to publish the names of selected personnel on Part One Orders. Personnel are classed as on duty for the duration of the event (including travel time), although individuals are strongly encouraged to ensure that they have personal and third party liability insurance when participating in any Service sport.

  6. Medical.  In case of injury immediate first aid will be provide at the pitch. If necessary an ambulance will be called for evacuation of the player to the nearest hospital, which is Aldershot Centre for Health, Hospital Hill, GU11 1AY. In accordance with AGAI Vol 1 Chapter 5 Part 7, the Army Hockey Association will be responsible for producing a full risk assessment for the event.

  7. Authority to travel.  201DIN10-030 gives guidance on travel claims permissible for Corps sport. Players are to ensure they arrange transport in accordance with the direction in the DIN. Where possible, players should car share with others from local units and white fleet vehicles should be used in preference to hire cars or privately owned vehicles.

  8. Car Parking.  Players are to use the sport centre carpark. Please do not park cars on main roads or illegally in the Aldershot area.

  9. Feeding.  Aldershot operates PAYD facilities. There are no specific facilities provided for the event and players are advised to bring a packed lunch. Food and snacks will be available to purchase on the day from a burger van if available.

  10. Accommodation. Accommodation has not been booked. Any players needing accommodation are to make their own arrangements through the Central Accommodation Booking Service (01252 352169 or defence.bookings@sodexo.com).

  11. Tournament Directors Briefing.  The Tournament Director (TD) will require team managers/captains to come forward for a brief meeting prior to the first game. A  written brief is attached and team managers/captains are asked to report to the TD on arrival, and if they have any queries regarding her instructions, raise them at the time.

  12. Rules of the Tournament.  Attached at Annex B is a copy of the Rules of the Tournament, please read carefully.

  13. Prize Giving.  The presentation of trophies will be made immediately after the final match on Sun 21 May and it is requested that all teams taking part be present for the prize giving ceremony.

  14. Team Colours.  Should teams have the same colour shirts bibs will be provided for the 2nd named team.

  15. Photography.  There is to be no flash photography during the hockey. Lt Col (Rtd) Jackman or Musn Snood (HAC) will hopefully be available to take tournament photographs.
